Ludhiana Issewal Gangrape: Six accused convicted

In the 2019 gangrape case of a 21-year-old girl residing neat Issewal village, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Sharma has convicted all the six accused in the case.

Sadiq Ali of Mukandpur, Nawanshahar; Liyakat Ali of Ludhiana; Surmu of Khanpur village, Dehlon; Saif Ali of Dehlon; Ajay, alias Lalan, of Jassad Paddi village, Jagroop Singh, alias Rupi, of Jaspal Bangar village were the six accused who have been convicted in the case.

On Monday afternoon, the accused were produced in the court. Later, the court held all of them guilty.

According to the reports, Jagroop Singh was out on bail. He was taken into custody.

The court has now postponed the case till March 4 for the quantum of sentence.

The reports suggest that the police had filed a 700-page chargesheet. This chargesheet was based on the scientific investigation which was supported by 54 testimony of witnesses that were against the accused on April 4, 2019.

Issewal gangrape case: What was the whole incident?

On February 8, 2019, the victim was reportedly gang-raped near Issewal village. Her car, in which she was travelling in with her friend, was stopped and she was reportedly dragged out.

Then, on February 22, 2019, an identification parade was carried out. The victim identified all the accused. Then on May 6, the charges were framed.

All over Punjab, there was an outrage. The opposition Aam Aadmi Party and Lok Insaaf Party slammed the government in Punjab Assembly. After that, vigil around the Sidhwan Canal village was increased.
