The newly appointed Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, October 1. It is expected that he would appeal to withdraw the Centre’s orders to postponing the paddy procurement by ten days.
This will be Channi’s first meet with the Prime Minister after assuming the CM office. He may also meet senior Congress leaders and discuss the ongoing issues that the party has been facing. The sources suggest that a coordination panel will be set up. The state government will consult the panel before making major decisions.
Centre’s nodal agency Food Corporation of India and other state agencies undertake paddy procurement. On Thursday, the centre postponed procurement of Kharif paddy in Haryana and Punjab till October 11.
