The Central Board of School Education on Friday clarified to keep all the regional subjects in the category of minor subjects for the first term exams of classes 10 and 12.
Opposing the decision, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had tweeted that it was authoritarian and against the “federal spirit of constitution”.
He wrote, “I firmly oppose the CBSE’s authoritarian decision to keep Punjabi out of the main subjects. This is against the federal spirit of Constitution, violating the right of Punjabi youth to learn their native language. I condemn this biased exclusion of Punjabi.”
To this, CBSE replied to Channi’s tweet and clarified that the classification of the subjects was done “purely on administrative ground”. Further, it informed that the regional languages were put under the minor category for administrative convenience and logistics required to conduct the exams.
