A fire broke out at Feroze Gandhi Market in Ludhiana on Friday night. Around three shops were severely damaged because of the mishap. The incident happened in the Legacy Tower building opposite the ICICI bank Feroze Gandhi market branch.
The incident happened around 2 am and the owners of the shops were later informed by a passerby.
Ria Sharma, the owner of the Chai Sutta Bar franchise at Feroze Gandhi Market, said, “We were informed that flames are seen in the shop adjoining ours. A short-circuit was the reason behind the mishap. If the power had been disconnected on time, the shops could have been saved. We had repeatedly called the electricity board to disconnect the power of the area but they did not take any action on time.”
She also informed that all the earnings of the 31st night were also kept inside the shop.
“The fire erupted in other shops as well and because of a blast in the gas cylinder, such damage has been witnessed,” she added.
“We suffered a loss of Rs. 12-13 lakhs. All the equipment and the machines at the restaurant are damaged because of the fire.”
She also said that a complaint would be filed against the electricity board as they did not take any action and the mishap could have been stopped.
“Crunchy Vada Pav” and another adjoining eatery were also damaged in the mishap.
