The Congress government in Punjab faced backlash for appointing pro-Khalistan leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu’s brother as the chairman of Punjab Genco Limited.

The Congress government in Punjab has appointed Balwinder Singh Pannu as the Chairman of Punjab Genco Limited. His brother Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is the secretary-general of the pro-Khalistan organization Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).

The opposition has questioned his appointment. Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal had asked why someone from the family of a pro-Khalistan group is being appointed in the Punjab government. The national general secretary of Bhartiya Janta Party, Tarun Chugh also said that the move was appeasing “anti-national and disruptive forces.”
