CM Channi requests Election Commission to change elections date in Punjab

Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi has reportedly requested the Election Commission of India to change the election date in Punjab.

According to the reports, Charanjit Singh Channi has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India Sushil Chandra asking him to postpone the election date in Punjab.

In the letter, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi reportedly said, “It has been brought to my notice by the representatives of the Scheduled Caste community that Guru Ravidass Prakash Purab is on February 16. Pilgrims (about 20 lakh) are expected to go to Banaras. The Schedule Caste community contributes about 32% of the total population of the state.”

Further, CM reportedly said that the pilgrims won’t be able to vote on February 14, the date announced by the Election Commission of India. CM has requested the ECI to reschedule the elections in Punjab and has said that the new date should be February 20.
