VK Bhawra has been appointed as the new DGP of Punjab. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi approved his appointment.
The Union Public Service Commission had provided a list of three officers. Out of those, the Punjab government appointed VK Bhawra as the new Director General of Police of the state.
Prabodh Kumar and Dinkar Gupta were the other two officers shortlisted by UPSC. VK Bhawra is a 1987 batch IPS officer.
The Punjab government’s order says, “On the consideration of the panel received by UPSC, the Governor of Punjab is pleased to appoint Viresh Kumar Bhawra, IPS, as Director General of Police, Punjab (Head of Police Force). His term shall be for a minimum period of two years from the date of assumption of office in pursuance of the orders of the Supreme Court dated July 3, 2018.”
