Captain Amarinder Singh has clearly said that he will oppose if the Congress party choose Navjot Singh Sidhu as the CM candidate. Singh, who resigned from the chief minister’s post yesterday, said that Sidhu was a threat to national security. “I will oppose him for the sake of my country,” Captain said.
“It is Congress’ decision to choose anyone they want for the CM candidate, but not him (Sidhu). He is going to be a disaster. It is okay to make him Punjab PCC chief but I will oppose if they make him a CM candidate for Punjab,” he said.
Further, he added that it is about national security. “Imran Khan and General Bajwa (Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff, Pakistan) are Sidhu’s friends. In Punjab, we have got a common border from Pathankot to Fazilka of 600 km. So, he is a threat to the national security.”
Singh’s and his council of ministers’ resignation was accepted by Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday.
Several senior politicians from Punjab are up for the CM post. The list includes Sunil Jakhar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Ambika Soni. However, media reports suggest that Ambika Soni has declined to accept the post.
A formal announcement about the new CLP leader is expected today.
