Why did Russia invade Ukraine?
There had been a long turmoil between these two countries, a former Soviet Republic. Russia has been demanding an end to NATO’s eastward expansion. In January last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the United States President to join NATO.
To this, Russia sent troops near its Ukraine borders for “training exercises” in spring last year. The United States also hyped Russian deployment of the troops. Joe Biden also warned Vladimir Putin of several sanctions if Russia invaded Putin.
However, the conflict has continued and yesterday, several cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv, was attacked by the Russian troops.
