Amid the rising cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in India, Punjab has now witnessed its first case.
As per the reports, a 36-year-old man, who had recently returned from Spain, has been tested positive for Omicron. A health official has reportedly informed that he had visited his relative’s place in Nawanshahr district.
When he arrived on December 4, he was tested negative for coronavirus. However, on December 12, he was tested positive for the virus.
Later, he was admitted to the hospital and his samples were sent for genome sequencing (to check the variant of the coronavirus). The sample was sent to the Government Medical College Patiala.
On December 28, it was found that he had been tested positive for the Omicron variant of the virus.
Keeping in mind the rising cases of the Omicron variant in the country, the Punjab government had issued some major guidelines that would be implemented from January 15.
