No relief to Bikram Majithia in drugs case, HC sends notice to Punjab Government

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia, the main accused in the synthetic drugs case, did not get any relief from the High Court on Wednesday, January 5.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has adjourned the hearing on Bikram Majithia’s petition till January 10. However, accepting his petition, the High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government. The High Court has sought a reply from the Punjab government till January 8.

Bikram Majithia’s lawyer DS Sobti reportedly said, “The High Court has said that there are very important points in the claim of the petitioner, only after which the reply has been sought from the Punjab Government.”

A virtual hearing was conducted. P Chidambaram is the lawyer on the behalf of the Punjab government. Now, after the reply of the Punjab government, there will be another hearing on January 10.

Earlier also, Bikram Majithia’s petition for an interim bail was dismissed by the sessions court.

Allegations on Bikram Majithia

The Punjab government has put some serious allegations against Bikram Majithia. According to the reports, the government has alleged that Canadian drugs smuggler Satpreet Satta was in contact with Bikram Majithia and he (Satta) was even staying at his residence in Amritsar. It is said that Satta also stayed in Chandigarh at the residence provided by the government to Bikram Majithia.

Further, the government has alleged that Bikram Majithia had given him complete security including gunmen. He has also been accused of getting funds from drug smugglers during the elections. Shiromani Akali Dal has been saying that it is Congress’ way of taking political revenge.
