The Election Commission of India will hold a meeting today i.e. January 31 to review the coronavirus situation in the five poll-bound states and decide whether the ban on physical rallies shall continue or not.
According to the reports, Sushil Chandra, the Chief Electoral Officer, will meet Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and discuss the covid situation in all the five states where the election are scheduled in February and March.
Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur are the five states where elections are going to be held. On January 8, the Model Code of Conduct came into force and the Election Commission of India decided to ban political gatherings and physical rallies.
As of now, the Election Commission has permitted only 10 people to gather in door-to-door campaigning. Also, not more than 300 people can gather for a meeting. Strict actions are being taken in Punjab for the violation of the covid guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. The Election Commission has sent notices to Bhagwant Mann and Anmol Gagan Mann of Aam Aadmi Party.
In Punjab, elections will be held on February 20. The counting of votes will be done on March 10.
