Ludhiana has always been a bastion of Congress. However, this time, AAP had won 13 out of the total 14 assembly constituencies in Ludhiana. The Congress stalwarts in Ludhiana could not even win a single seat.
The political leaders of Congress who were fighting for their hat-trick had lost this time.
Rakesh Pandey had won the Ludhiana North seat six times. He did not even reach second position this time. AAP’s Madan Lal Bagga has won the seat this time.
For Bharat Bhushan Ashu, a tough fight was expected in the Ludhiana West constituency. There were several political stalwarts against him. Bikram Sidhu of Bhartiya Janta Party, Maheshinder Singh Garewal of Shiromani Akali Dal were against him.
The one who won the elections from Ludhiana West constituency is Gurpreet Singh Gogi. Once he was a close-aide of Bharat Bhushan Ashu. But since the time he had left the party, he had been very boldly speaking against Bharat Bhushan Ashu. With a margin of 7,512 votes, AAP’s Gogi has defeated everyone.
In 2012 and 2017, Surinder Kumar Dawar won the Ludhiana Central seat. But this time, his former colleague from Congress has defeated him. AAP had given the Ludhiana Central seat ticket to Ashok Prashar Pappi. He has managed to win the seat for the party.
Bains brothers nowhere in the game
For the last 10 years, Bains brothers had a stronghold in their respective constituencies. Balwinder Singh Bains had won the elections from Ludhiana South seat twice. Similarly, Simarjit Singh Bains had also won Atam Nagar seat twice.
But this time, they did not even reach their winning margin of the 2017 elections.
In 2017, Balwinder Bains won the Ludhiana South seat with a margin of 30,917 votes. But this time, he received only 11,906 votes. In 2017, Simarjit Singh Bains won Atam Nagar seat with a margin of 16,913 votes. But now, Simarjit Singh Bains received 12,720 votes only.
