The Election Commission of India has changed the Assembly Polls schedule for the state of Punjab. The schedule for nomination and scrutiny has also been changed in Punjab.

Here is the new schedule

Date of nomination: 25th January 2022

Last date of nomination: 1st February 2022

Date of scrutiny: 2nd February 2022

Date of withdrawal of nomination: 4th February 2022

Date of elections: 20th February 2022

The counting of votes and result will be declared on 10th March 2022.

Several political parties including Congress, BJP, SAD had urged the Election Commission to change the election date.

A lot of people from the SC community of Punjab are expected to go to Varanasi from February 10 to 16 for the Guru Ravidass Jayanti celebrations.

The Jayanti is on February 16. Also, 32% of the total population of Punjab belongs to the SC community. Therefore, a massive downfall in the number of voters would have been witnessed.
