Ludhiana, December 26

From January 3, India will start vaccinating children of the age of 15-18 for the coronavirus. These steps have been taken amid the rising cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement on Saturday, December 25.

It is to be noted that India is not the first country where the coronavirus vaccine program for children below the age of 18 has started.

A lot of countries have already initiated vaccination programs for children.

Currently, in India, only those above the age of 18 are allowed to take the coronavirus vaccine.

According to the reports, the Indian Government has approved two vaccines to be administered to the kids.

The government in August approved Zydus Cadila’s three-dose DNA shot to be used on adults and children above the age of 12.

Other than that, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin received a thumbs up from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) in October, for emergency use on the kids of the age of 12-18.

Third coronavirus dose for health care workers

Other than starting a coronavirus vaccination programme for the children, the government has also given nod to the third dose of vaccine for the healthcare workers across the country. This is also called the “booster dose” or “precaution dose”.  This third dose vaccination will also start from January 10 in India.
