Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal announced the Chief Minister candidate for Punjab from his party today. Bhagwant Mann has been announced as the CM face of the Aam Admi Party in Punjab.
The party chose the televoting process in Punjab to choose its CM candidate. For the first time in India’s politics, a party asked the general public to announce its CM candidate.
Arvind Kejriwal said that of the 21,69,000 votes received, 93.3 percent were in favour of Bhagwant Mann.
Other than Sanyukt Samaj Morcha in Punjab, AAP has announced its CM face for the 2022 Assembly elections.
Even if AAP comes into power and Bhagwant Mann becomes the Chief Minister of Punjab, he would have to make a serious sacrifice. Also, AAP will face a major blow on a national level.
It is to be noted that Bhagwant Mann is the only member in Lok Sabha representing Aam Aadmi Party. Therefore, if AAP comes to power in Punjab and Bhagwant Mann becomes the Chief Minister, he would have to leave his parliamentary seat. Hence, AAP will not have any representatives in Lok Sabha.
AAP will face a major blow on a national level if they win the 2022 Assembly elections in Punjab. They will lose their only representative in Lok Sabha.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested on more than 40 constituencies. But Bhagwant Mann was the only one who managed to win a seat for AAP.
In Rajya Sabha also, AAP has only 3 representatives (Sanjay Singh, Narain Dass Gupta, Sushil Kumar Gupta).
If Bhagwant Mann becomes the Chief Minister of Punjab, then by-elections will happen for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.
If he wins his seat in these Assembly Polls (which is not announced yet), but overall, AAP loses, he will have to choose between his parliamentary seat and the state legislative seat.
In both conditions, by-elections will happen in Punjab. There is a probability that AAP may have to make a major sacrifice on a national level.
