The body of 32-year-old Nidhi, who was allegedly shot dead by a Punjab Police constable named Simran Singh on Saturday night, was cremated today in the presence of her husband and family.
Nidhi’s husband Amandeep Singh was living abroad and he quickly returned when he received the news about her wife’s death.
He said that he and his 11-year-old son has talked a lot about the accused Punjab Police constable Simran Singh. He said that his son has made several revelations related to Simran Singh, who allegedly killed his mother Nidhi.
His son said that Simran Singh used to beat her mother frequently. Also, he used to threaten him and her mother at gunpoint to hush them up. That is why Nidhi did not tell anything about it to her husband Amandeep Singh.
Nidhi’s husband Amandeep Singh said that he had gone abroad so that he could secure his children’s future and earn a good amount of money. Nidhi and her children used to live near Rose Garden first. However, due to a conflict with the landlord related to fare, they shifted to rented accommodation in the Durgapuri Haibowal area.
He said, “I used to talk to Nidhi and my children over video call daily. However, I did not know anything about Simran (the accused police constable). If I knew about it, I would have come back to India. When I came here, I got to know that Simran used to live with my family.”
“I would have been killed”
The 11-year-old son of Nidhi said that Simran would have killed him. However, Nidhi had asked him to go to the terrace. When he came downstairs, Simran tried to kill him also. But he ran away from there and shouted to gather people from the neighbourhood.
The 11-year-old son also said that Nidhi used to tell him that the accused Simran was his “Chachu”. He used to keep an eye on three of them.
“I wanted to go to my maternal house in Faridabad with my mother. However, the accused used to stop us. On that day (when the incident happened), my mother and Simran were fighting over the same issue.”
The boy called his father when he saw his mother lying in the pool of blood.
On Saturday night, Simran Singh who is a Punjab Police constable shot 31-year-old Nidhi dead. After killing her, he also shot himself and he was then admitted to DMC Hospital. The incident happened in the Durgapuri area of Haibowal.
Haibowal Police Station Sub-inspector Harpreet Singh said that the accused is admitted to the ICU and his condition is critical. That is why the police team did not get his official statement. Further investigation into the case is underway.
