Ludhiana, September 15

In the last five years, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has spent more on the repair of the roads than on building new ones. RTI activist from Ludhiana, Rohit Sabharwal, has earlier asked for information related to the building of the roads in the city.

It has been found that from the year 2015 to 2020, Rs. 176.95 crore is spent on building roads. However, Rs. 212.33 crore is spent on the patchwork and repair of the roads. Other than that, it has been found that the Building & Roads department did not even maintain the record of the money spent.

The matter has been taken into account by the local urban development authorities. Rohit Sabharwal said that the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has spent over 35 crores more on roads’ repair than on building new ones. Through RTI, when concerned authorities were asked about the detailed information of the money spent on different roads of the city, they had no answer. Instead, they said that no information was available. A complaint has been sent to the Chief Vigilance Officer.

Even the Chief Vigilance Officer has written a letter to the Municipal Corporation commissioner in which wrote that the B&R officers of all the zones were asked to provide the information, but everything went in vain.
