A murder has been witnessed in Ludhiana’s Haibowal area. The victims were residents of Joshi Nagar in Haibowal.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Nidhi. She was a tenant in the residence where the incident happened. Simranpal Singh, who is a constable of Punjab Police, allegedly shot her with his service rifle (AK-47) and then shot himself as well. He has been admitted to DMC Hospital and his condition is critical. He was posted at Police Lines Ludhiana.
The neighbours and the landlord of Nidhi said that Nidhi belonged to Gurgaon. She was married to a man living in Ludhiana’s Janta Nagar area. He had gone abroad three years back. After that, Nidhi started living at a house in Haibowal’s Durgapuri area with her 11-year-old son and two-and-half-year old daughter.
As per the information received, on Saturday night at about 8 pm, Simranpal Singh reached Nidhi’s home and opened fire at her. He fired around 3-4 rounds at her and she died on the spot. After that, Simranpal shot himself as well and fell on the floor. The people living nearby reached the crime spot and then took Simrampal to the hospital.
Children saw their mother dying
Nidhi’s children were playing in the house when the incident happened. They saw their mother being killed. The police teams from Haibowal Police Station reached the crime spot and tried to get information from the children and the witnesses. The police also informed that the children used to address Simran Pal as “Chachu”.
No information has been received as to what relationship did Nidhi had with Simranpal and why he killed her. Further investigation into the case is underway.
