An all-party meeting was held in Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh on Monday to discuss the Centre’s decision to increase BSF’s jurisdiction in border states.

Several leaders from different political parties were seen arriving for the meeting. According to the reports, Bhagwant Mann and Aman Arora represented the Aam Aadmi Party in the meeting. Daljit Cheema and Chandumajra represented Shiromani Akali Dal.

The meeting was convened by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal also attended the meeting.

The BJP’s Punjab unit had decided to boycott the meeting and stated that there was no conflict between the BSF and the state police. Senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia reportedly said that BSF was a concurrent list subject. He said, “Along with the BSF, the Punjab Police can also carry out searches and register cases. Drones are used for smuggling drugs and weapons. To stop such activities, BSF’s jurisdiction has been increased.”
