Ludhiana, March 10

AAP has clean sweeped Congress in Ludhiana. The city is considered the bastion of Congress. However, out of the total 14 Assembly seats of Ludhiana, AAP has managed to win 13 seats.

Congress has not won any seat in Ludhiana. Only Shiromani Akali Dal’s Manpreet Singh Ayali has saved his Dakha seat.

There were two cabinet ministers from the Ludhiana district in Charanjit Singh Channi’s government. However, now, they have even lost their seats in Punjab Vidhansabha.

Former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu has also lost his Ludhiana West seat. His old ally Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, who had joined Aam Aadmi Party a month before the elections, has defeated him.

On the other side, Gurkirat Singh Kotli was the Industries Minister in Channi’s government. He has also been defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Tarunpreet Singh Sond. Kotli has won the Khanna assembly constituency in 2012 and 2017.

Ludhiana Central

A tough fight was witnessed between Aam Aadmi Party’s Ashok Prashar Pappi and Congress Surinder Kumar Dawar. During the initial rounds of vote counting, BJP’s Gurdev Sharma Debi was also leading. But later on, Ashok Prashar Pappi won the seat for Aam Aadmi Party.

Ludhiana North

From Ludhiana North, AAP’s Madan Lal Bagga has managed to win the seat. Bagga has defeated Congress’ Rakesh Pandey and BJP’s Praveen Bansal. It is to be noted that Ludhiana North has been Rakesh Pandey’s bastion. He has won the elections from Ludhiana North seat six times.

Ludhiana East

Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate from Ludhiana East Daljit Singh Grewal Bhola has defeated Congress’ Sanjeev Talwar. Earlier, Daljit Singh Garewal used to be a part of Congress. However, he left the party and joined Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the elections.

Ludhiana West

Ludhiana West was one of the hot seats of Punjab. Former Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu was fighting from Ludhiana West for his winning hat-trick. However, one of his old friends, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi has defeated him. Just a month before the elections, Gurpreet Gogi left Congress and joined Aam Aadmi Party.

Ludhiana South

Ludhiana South used to be a bastion of the Lok Insaf Party. Balwinder Bains had a stronghold in the Ludhiana South assembly constituency. Here also, Aam Aadmi Party has won. Satinderpal Singh Tajpuri of Bhartiya Janta Party is the runner-up in Ludhiana South and Rajinder Pal Kaur has won the seat for AAP.

Atam Nagar

Atam Nagar was one of the most sensitive constituencies in Ludhiana. The political experts were expecting a tough fight between Congress’ Kamaljit Singh Karwal and Lok Insaf Party’s Simarjit Singh Bains. However, Kulwant Singh Sidhu of the Aam Aadmi Party has defeated both of them. Former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains did not even cross the winning margin of his last elections.

Winning margin- 16,354 votes

Khanna

In Charanjit Singh Channi’s government, there were two cabinet ministers from Ludhiana. One of them was Congress’ Gurkirat Singh Kotli. He has also been defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Tarunpreet Singh Sond. Shiromani Akali Dal’s Jasdeep Kaur Yadu received second-highest votes in Khanna constituency.

Dakha

Mullanpur Dakha is the only seat in Ludhiana where Shiromani Akali Dal has won. Manpreet Singh Ayali has defeated Congress’ Captain Sandhu and Aam Aadmi Party’s Dr. KNS Kang. For the third time, Manpreet Singh Ayali has won the elections from Mullanpur Dakha seat.

Payal

From Payal, Manwinder Singh Giaspura of the Aam Aadmi Party has won the elections. There also, the former MLA was from Congress. Lakhvir Singh was the sitting MLA and he has been defeated with a margin of 33,009 votes.

Raikot

From Raikot, Congress had played their cards on Kamil Amar Singh. Hakam Singh Thekedar of Aam Aadmi Party has won the Raikot seat. Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal was the former MLA in Raikot from Aam Aadmi Party. However, he had resigned from his post and joined Indian National Congress.

Samrala

In Samrala, the experts were predicting a tough fight between Sanyukt Kisan Morcha’s Balbir Rajewal and Amrik Singh Dhillon, who was contesting elections independently. But the top two contenders were Aam Aadmi Party’s Jagtar Singh Diyalpura and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Paramjit Singh Dhillon. AAP has won the Samrala seat with a margin of 30,589 votes.

Sahnewal

Hardeep Singh Mundian from Aam Aadmi Party has won the Sahnewal seat. Vikram Singh Bajwa was the candidate from Indian National Congress in Sahnewal. Hardeep Singh received 46,322 votes and defeated Vikram Bajwa with a difference of 5,193 votes.

Jagraon

In Jagraon, Sarvjit Kaur Manuke of Aam Aadmi Party has once again won the elections. She had a stronghold in the constituency. This time, she had won the elections with a margin of 39,210 votes. SR Kaler of Shiromani Akali Dal received second-highest votes.

Gill

Kuldeep Vaid of Congress was the sitting MLA. However, this time, he was in third place in getting votes. Jivan Singh Sangowal of the Aam Aadmi Party has won the elections in Gill. Darshan Singh Shivalik of Shiromani Akali Dal received second-highest votes. With a massive difference of 57,288 votes, AAP has swept the Gill seat.
