Aam Aadmi Party has become the first political party in Punjab to announce their Chief Minister face in the 2022 Assembly Polls. AAP’s supremo Arvind Kejriwal today announced Bhagwant Mann as the party’s CM candidate.
Arvind Kejriwal said the Bhagwant Mann received 93 percent votes in the party’s televoting drive.
Bhagwant Mann’s political jounrey
Bhagwant Mann was already a renowned face in Punjab when he started his political journey.
For the last 10 years, Bhagwant Mann has been an important face in Punjab politics. In the year 2012, he joined the Punjab People’s Party. His political journey has been full of ups and downs.
2012: In the year 2012, he contested the elections against Rajinder Kaur Bhatthal from the Lehra seat. However, he lost in the elections.
Bhagwant Mann had joined the People’s Party Punjab with Manpreet Singh Badal, who has now become an important face in Punjab Congress.
2014: In the year 2014, Bhagwant Mann left the party and joined AAP. That is when he got the chance to fight the Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated Congress’ Vijay Inder Singla and former Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
It is to be noted that Bhagwant Mann is the sitting MP from Sangrur. He has won Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur on AAP’s ticket, twice.
2017: If we talk about the 2017 Assembly elections, Bhagwant Mann contested from Jalalabad seat on AAP’s ticket against Sukhbir Badal.
2019: In the year 2019, Bhagwant Mann won the Lok Sabha elections for the second time and defeated Congress’ Kewal Singh Dhillon and SAD’s Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
Bhagwant Mann was the only one to bag a parliament seat for Aam Aadmi Party. In the year 2019, AAP had contested elections from 40 seats. However, only Bhagwant Mann won the seat for AAP.
Bhagwant Mann is the only MP from AAP in Lok Sabha. Therefore, if AAP wins the Assembly elections and Bhagwant Mann becomes the CM, he would have to leave his MP seat.
He has been repeatedly criticized for his alcohol addiction. In the year 2019, at AAP’s event, Bhagwant Mann had even pledged, not to drink alcohol again. His mother was also present at the event.
Personal life and family
AAP’s CM face Bhagwant Mann is 48 years old. He was born on October 17, 1973, in Satauj, Sangrur. His father’s name is Shri Mohinder Singh, mother’s name is Harpal Kaur. In the year 2015, he parted ways with his ex-wife Inderjit Kaur. He completed his graduation from Shaheed Udham Singh College, Sunam.
