A woman constable was reportedly suspended after a complaint was filed that an 80-year-old woman was allegedly “strip-searched” at Guwahati Airport.
The Central Industrial Security Force has suspended the woman constable after a complaint was filed by the victim’s granddaughter.
The reports suggest the incident happened at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoli International Airport. The victim and her granddaughter had to take a flight to Delhi.
CISF on its official Twitter handle wrote, “Security and dignity of needy pax go hand in hand. CISF has already started enquiry in connection with the unfortunate incident at Guwahati airport. The concerned personnel has been suspended. DIG CISF has spoken with the passenger.”
It is to be noted that CISF takes care of the security at 65 civil airports of the country. Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also reportedly said that he was looking into the matter.
Dolly Kikkon, the daughter of the victim woman raised the complaint of the incident over Twitter and tagged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa, CISF and Guwahati International Airport Authorities.
She wrote, “My 80 year old mom was made to strip at the CISFsecurity check at Guwahati airport. The security personnel wanted “proof” of her titanium hip implant and forced her to undress.”
Further, she wrote, “It is disgusting! My 80 year old disabled mother was forced to pull down her undergarment and get naked. Why? Why?”
The CISF also said that the security personnel performed the Stand Operating Procedure as the metal detecting machine beeped indicating metal inside the woman’s body.
The personnel was reportedly concerned and she asked the lady passenger to pull down her lower body garments. A senior police official said that the woman was asked to show her hip implant area. A probe has also been initiated to check if the woman was treated respectfully by the security personnel.
