Third wave alert: India records over 2.6 lakh covid cases in a day

Ludhiana, January 15

Amid the rising coronavirus cases in India, the country records more than 2 lakh 68 thousand new coronavirus cases on Friday. Also, the Omicron cases in the country have reached 6,041.

Also, 402 deaths were reported due to coronavirus on Friday, January 14. With this, the death toll in India has reached 4,85,752.

The worrying aspect is that the number of active coronavirus cases has crossed the 14-lakh mark, the highest in more than 200 days.


On Friday, Punjab reported 7,642 new coronavirus cases and 21 deaths. Ludhiana was the most-affected district yesterday as 1808 cases were witnessed in the city. Currently, there are 34,303 active coronavirus cases in Punjab.

It is to be noted that in the five poll-bound states including Punjab, the Election Commission had issued strict guidelines keeping in mind the increasing number of coronavirus cases. A complete ban has been imposed on physical rallies and political gatherings till January 15. New guidelines of the Election Commission are expected today.
